Guess what! It’s time for another update! When I wrote to you last, we were gearing up to play Shenandoah University plus the beginning of ODAC play on Saturday. On Wednesday we played to a 2-2 tie that went into double overtime against Shenandoah University. The first half was a great half for the Eagles. We moved the ball well and we were able to get off some quality shots. We were even able to keep our composure when hard fouls from the opponents came our way. Going into halftime, despite our great play, we only had a 1-0 lead. The second half was a bit different. We did not come out well as a team and Shenandoah was able to score two goals on us. We fought back and tried to settle down and as the time was winding down we were able to score the tying goal. We created many opportunities but just could not capitalize throughout regulation and two overtimes.
On Saturday we hosted Emory & Henry in our first ODAC conference game of the season. As a team we came out ready to play and showed that we are a quality team and that our recent struggles to keep a lead would change during this game. We played great, passing the ball around every opponent and by halftime we held a commanding 3-0 lead.
During halftime we decided to give the fans some entertainment and have a penalty kick contest. Scottie Littles, a football player for our very own Eagles team was the goalkeeper for the contest. To be honest I do not the result because of the halftime talk but whoever was chosen to take the kick congratulations and hope you had fun.
Okay, back to the game. The second half did not start off the way that we were hoping and Emory & Henry was able to get on the board with their first goal of the game. After that we picked up the play and got right back to business. Unfortunately we were not able to put any more shots in the back of the net. We were also able to hold Emory & Henry scoreless after their first goal giving us a 3-1 win and our first ODAC win of the season!
Up next for the Lady Eagles soccer team is Lynchburg on Wednesday, September 22 at 4 p.m right here in Bridgewater. We will also face Roanoke on Saturday, September 25 at Roanoke, kickoff at 1 p.m. Thanks for all the support. Keep it coming.
Hope to see you at the next game!
