Hey everyone! It’s me again, time for another update!Since the last blog I posted we were getting ready to play our first game against Stevenson University. Stevenson proved to be a tough competitor and controlled a lot of the game but Bridgewater women’s soccer knows how to put up a good fight. We went up 1-0 at the half after some determined play in the box with only a few minutes left to play. The second half was not that much different than the first and with only a few minutes left to play we were able to pressure their defense enough to make a mistake and put the ball into the back of the net. We were able to get our first shutout of the season, and the win gave us confidence for the upcoming games in our tournament at Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
At the tournament, we did not play as hoped and the outcomes were not as we expected, losing both matches. On Saturday we faced a nationally ranked opponent, The College of New Jersey. Our motto is to Fear No One, and that’s the way we went into the game. We tried everything we could and still played our hardest but ultimately we were not able to hang with them losing 7-0.
On Sunday we played the host team of Elizabethtown. We fell behind early again but ran out of time as we pushed for a comeback and lost 4-2. Sunday’s game was better and we were able to prove that no matter the score we are still a force to be reckoned with, but we still have a lot to work on.
Thanks to everyone who made the trip to Elizabethtown to watch us play. We are looking forward to our next games against Emory and Mary Washington at the Mary Washington Tournament on September 11th and 12th.
In the mean time, I can assure you we will be working as hard as ever to prove that we are better than we showed this weekend, to make our team better, and to earn the respect we deserve.
